Chelsea have reached a final decision regarding Deivid Washington's future.

Washington signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea last summer following a €16m (£14m) transfer from Santos. Despite his promising start, the 19-year-old struggled to secure regular first-team action during his initial season, managing only three appearances across all competitions.

Faced with limited opportunities, Washington was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the recent transfer window. He was close to joining Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, but the transfer fell through on the final day of the window.

Chelsea also considered loaning Washington to Hull City, but that deal did not materialize before the English transfer window closed on August 30. With the transfer market still open in some countries, Chelsea explored other options to offload Washington. However, according to Premier League Brasil, Chelsea have decided to keep him at Stamford Bridge, where he will play with the Under-21 squad.

Flamengo reportedly sought to sign Washington on loan before the Brazilian transfer window closed on September 2, but Chelsea rejected the offer, believing that a return to Brazilian football wouldn't aid his development. Chelsea also attempted to loan him to another European club, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Thus, Washington is set to remain with Chelsea until at least the new year.

Washington might have chances to join the first team for matches where Enzo Maresca rotates his squad, such as the EFL Cup game against Barrow on September 24. However, he is expected to spend most of his time with the Under-21s, a team he knows well after scoring six goals in 11 appearances last season.

He will compete in several competitions with Chelsea's Under-21s, including the Premier League Cup, Premier League 2, and the Premier League International Cup, where Chelsea will face RB Leipzig, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Anderlecht, Real Sociedad, and Sporting Lisbon. The EFL Trophy, where Chelsea will play against Bromley, Charlton Athletic, and Cambridge United, also offers potential playing time for Washington.
