Porto aiming to close the gap at the top of the Primeira Liga, could move into first place on Saturday when they host relegation-threatened Boavista at Estádio do Dragão in gameweek 16.

After a difficult November, Porto have regained their momentum and are determined to push for their 31st Primeira Liga title, their first since 2022. Despite suffering three losses across all competitions last month—one of which was a heavy 4-1 defeat to Benfica—the Dragons have remained unbeaten in their last six games, winning four and drawing two.

With 37 points, Porto can move into first place with a win over Boavista, putting them ahead of Benfica (38) and Sporting (37) before their Sunday showdown. Porto's strong form at home, with eight wins from eight games and only two goals conceded at the Estádio do Dragão, gives them confidence heading into this match. 

In contrast, Boavista, who sit in the relegation play-off spot with just 12 points from 15 matches, are struggling. They have earned only three points from their last five league games, though they did manage to avoid defeat in three of their last four fixtures, including a narrow 3-2 loss at defending champions Sporting. Despite a poor home record, Boavista have been more competitive away, earning nine points on the road, placing them joint-fifth in away form.

While Boavista face a tough challenge, their decent away performances and the fact that none of their road defeats have been by more than a single goal gives their supporters some hope. Last season, they were narrowly beaten 2-1 at the Dragão, and they'll aim to disrupt Porto’s title hopes and keep their survival bid alive.
