Sporting Lisbon will seek to regain momentum in their Champions League campaign when they take on RB Leipzig, who have already been knocked out of contention.
Marco Rose’s Leipzig suffered another setback this weekend, throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Bundesliga's Bochum. Missing key players Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda due to red cards, Leipzig's poor form continues, and another defeat here would see them equal the record for most consecutive Champions League losses by a German club. Despite returning strikers, Leipzig remain without a point in the competition.
Sporting, meanwhile, has been inconsistent since Ruben Amorim's departure, with his replacement Joao Pereira quickly sacked after heavy losses. Under new manager Rui Borges, however, Sporting has shown improvement, including big wins over Porto and Benfica, although they lost the Taca da Liga final to Benfica. They are currently three points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.
Sporting needs just one point to secure a Champions League playoff spot, and two wins could even push them into the top eight. Their upcoming clash with Bologna could prove pivotal.
