[League One] Bolton is in disarray following the coach’s dismissal, while Northampton has been playing very pragmatically of late.
A new era has begun at Bolton. After a series of failures, the club unexpectedly decided to dismiss Ian Evatt, who had been the team's head coach since the summer of 2020. The management has not yet appointed a new coach. Despite this, Bolton remains in contention for the playoffs. Currently, the "Trotters" are in ninth place, just one point behind the top six.
In the previous round, Bolton managed to secure an away victory over Huddersfield with a score of 1-0. This was the team’s first match after Evatt's dismissal. Prior to that, Bolton had a three-game winless streak: a 1-2 loss to Charlton, a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United, and a 1-3 defeat to Rotherham.
Northampton faces very different challenges this season. Kevin Nolan's team is fighting to survive in the third tier of English football. Currently, the "Cobblers" sit just above the relegation zone in 20th place. However, their gap from the 21st spot is relatively comfortable at 6 points.
Recently, Northampton has been picking up points regularly, but their matches have been extremely uneventful. In the last round, Nolan’s team unexpectedly played out a 0-0 draw against Wycombe, one of the leaders in League One. Before that, Northampton lost 0-1 to Lincoln City, secured an important 1-0 win over Burton Albion, and played a 0-0 draw with Stevenage.
