[FA Cup] Tottenham has historically performed well at Villa Park. It’s quite likely that they’ll put up a fight and avoid defeat in regular time.
The Birmingham side struggled to get through the first round of the FA Cup, narrowly defeating West Ham 2-1 at home despite a poor first half. Notably, this victory was only their second in their last 12 FA Cup matches (1 draw, 9 losses).
Last season, Unai Emery's side was eliminated in the Round of 16, losing to Chelsea (0-0 and 1-3). Over the past two decades, Aston Villa has reached the FA Cup final just once, in the 2014/15 season, where they suffered a crushing defeat to Arsenal (0-4). Last weekend, Villa lost an away match to Wolverhampton 0-2 but managed to retain 8th place in the Premier League table.
Tottenham also had a tough time in the previous round of the FA Cup, needing extra time to defeat Tamworth (0-0 in regular time, 3-0 in extra time). Last season, Spurs were eliminated in the Round of 16 after a narrow 0-1 loss to Manchester City.
Interestingly, Tottenham has not won the FA Cup since 1991 and has not reached the final since then. Midweek, they suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat to Liverpool in the English League Cup. However, in the Premier League, Spurs managed a 2-0 away win against Brentford. Despite this, they are enduring a disappointing league campaign, sitting in 14th place.
