Bayer Leverkusen face an immense challenge to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, needing a historic comeback against Bayern Munich when the two sides meet at BayArena.

Leverkusen's mistakes in the first leg left them with a steep task ahead. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, a blunder by goalkeeper Matej Kovar gifted Musiala a second goal, and a red card for Nordi Mukiele made a comeback nearly impossible. Late in the game, Edmond Tapsoba’s penalty concession further sealed their fate. With a three-goal deficit, Leverkusen faces a rare challenge to overturn this tie.  

They also suffered a 2-0 loss to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, marking their first home defeat in 18 games. However, they have been solid at BayArena in the Champions League, winning their last four matches there without conceding.  

Bayern were efficient in the first leg, limiting Leverkusen to just one major chance, and have been in strong form overall, scoring three or more goals in six of their last 10 games. Despite a 3-2 loss to Bochum in the Bundesliga, Bayern had been unbeaten in their previous 10 matches.  

Kompany’s side has conceded only two goals in three domestic meetings with Leverkusen this season and has lost just twice in their last 12 away matches, although one of those defeats came against Feyenoord in the Champions League.
